Indian banks need $90 billion capital by Financial Year 2019: Fitch

"The sharp rise in their NPLs and resultant losses have weakened the banks' core capital buffers, which will be further stretched when adjusted for a higher 70% provision cover on problem loans. The liability ratings of these banks will be under more pressure if capital levels are not addressed, either by the government or the market,"Fitch analysts Saswata Guha and Jobin Jacob said in a note released on Tuesday.
